2 Bedroom House in Mokau
Our little slice of Mokau is an original retro 1970’s 30 ft self-contained and fully equipped caravan, with attached sleepout.
Situated right next to the river mouth with your own private access to the beach, we offer a wonderful place to relax. Fishing and seasonal whitebaiting (August 15th – November 30th), child friendly swimming, walks along the beach, or just whiling the hours away watching the boaties coming and going, all at your doorstep. Family Pets are welcome.
Mokau offers two cafes (that specialize in whitebait fritters), a Rural Butcher, where you can purchase Waitbait, and a local history museum/gallery.
As well as Mokau, there are a variety of other beaches to explore along our wild, yet serene coastline: Awakino: 10 mins north, offers more beautiful beaches, a hotel with a restaurant and accommodation. Mohakatino: 5 mins south, offers fishing, swimming, a waterfall for the kids to play under, and a mussel reef. Rapanui Beach is 8mins south on SH3. Tongaporutu: 10 mins south, has the 3 sisters and Elephant rock. Mt Damper falls is aproximately 35mins drive, up the Okau Rd, left at Ahititi, (15mins South). At the end of Pukearuhe Rd (30 mins south), you will find another beach and the starting point for the White Cliffs walkway. New Plymouth is only a 50 minute drive south.

Fire-pit (Fires are prohibited on the beach) but there is ample firewood for collecting on the beach.

All you need to bring is; your own food and beverages, rubbish bags, toiletries, pillows, sheets, (or sleeping bags), towels and tea towels. 1 Duvet per bed is provided* but if booking in winter you will need to bring extra's with you.
Very basic supplies are available at the Whitebait Inn, however Urenui Four Square is only 35mins drive south, over the scenic Mt Messenger.
Cheapest fuel is at Awakino, this is a self service station

Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the accommodation, do the dishes before you leave and take away your refuse. Cleaning equipment, dish clothes, Vacuum cleaner, hearth brush and shovel are provided. There is a recycle station at Mokau and a coin operated refuse disposal station at Tongaporutu.
N.B.
1) Steps to the beach are quite steep, so may not be suitable for those with limited mobility.
2) Caravan is situated quite close to SH3 so traffic can be noisy when the road is busy.
